The 2022 Capital One Orange Bowl features a matchup between the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Champion (or the highest-ranked ACC team if the champion is in the playoff) against a top opponent from the Big Ten, SEC, or Notre Dame. The game kicks off on Friday, December 30, 2022 at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, FL. Created in 1935, the Orange Bowl is the second oldest bowl game in the country and will host its 89th edition in 2022. As part of the New Year's Six Bowl Games, the Capital One Orange Bowl hosts a Playoff Semifinal every three years (2015, 2018, 2021, 2024). In the years when it doesn't host a Playoff Semifinal, the Capital One Orange Bowl is the home of the Atlantic Coast Conference. That means the ACC Champion (or highest ranked non-playoff ACC team if the champion is in the playoff) faces the highest ranked available non-champion, non-playoff team from the Big Ten, Southeastern Conference or Notre Dame. The Georgia Bulldogs defeated the Michigan Wolverines 34-11 in the latest edition of the game, the Playoff Semifinal at the Capital One Orange Bowl on Dec. 31, 2021. The most recent Playoff Semifinal at the Capital One Orange Bowl occurred on Dec. 29, 2018 when the No.1 ranked Alabama Crimson Tide of the SEC raced out to a 28-0 lead and held on to defeat the No.4 ranked Oklahoma Sooners of the Big 12, 45-34.
